Case story

Buried infiltration tank made with crates below townhall place

France, Bruay-sur-l’Escaut (59)

Water pollution control solution:
TenCate GeoClean® Origin oil-biodegrading aquatextile.

Function:
Cleans the runoff water from hydrocarbons.

Water authorities' approval:
Approved by the local water administration (DDTM Direction Départementale des Territoires et de la Mer, Département du Nord - Departmental Direction of Territories and the Sea in the Nord department).

Context:
To limit the volume of stormwater in the town’s sewage network and the quantity of annual discharge from stormwater overflows, two buried attenuation and infiltration tanks were built on Place des Farineaux, in front of and behind the town hall in Bruay-sur-l’Escaut.

Design:
Runoff water from roads and car parks that is polluted by oil leaks is collected in several injection wells equipped with TSS (total suspended solid) filters (such as MEAPUR) that remove a significant amount of the pollution and TSS. The water is then injected into a series of two underground attenuation tanks then infiltrated in the ground below.
